Inclusive working environments for older, potentially handicapped employees and for employees with disabilities

During the past years the working world has significantly changed. Nowadays work is mainly based on the processing of information and knowledge. Much work is supported by modern information and communication technologies (ICT).

People with severe disabilities are quite often excluded from participation in working life. This is especially true for aging people with severe disabilities and for old people who have acquired a disability in the course of their lifes. At the same time the lack of skilled workers will increase due to the demographic change.

A chance to act against this development is the (in Germany already implemented) increase of the retirement age and the employment of older people. For this purpose the work has to be arranged and designed in such a way that it can be carried out by all employees, i.e. also by persons who are disabled or are at risk to become disabled, e.g. due to deterioration.

It is necessary to look at the actual working environments in companies in order to take adequate action for preventive, organisational and technical provisions.

Description of Work

The employment situation is exemplarily investigated with focus on the application of disability compensating technology at the work place as well as on the situation of older employees with disabilities. Based on the results, measures are developed that shall ensure continuous participation in work life. These measures are exemplarily implemented and evaluated in the region in close cooperation with the project partners.
